Click Clicks!

Out to dinner with some friends from Salt Lake, Ty went to take the funniest picture ever. All of a sudden, our Sony Cybershot went "ka-put!" We are, needless to say, so sad. And in the market :) So friends, it is now time to NETWORK. There are two cameras that we're interested in investing in-so talk to your photography friends, talk to yourself, and then talk to us! We'd really appreciate it! I'm looking into becoming more interested in photography around...lets say August. But would be looking to purchase one around April. So any feedback is good feedback, and the more feedback the better, and the better I'll feel about actually purchasing :) Our blog is open so anyone can comment!!! Thanks!

-Canon EOS Rebel XS
-Nikon D60

Thanks you guys!!!!

Hi, I was linked to this blog by our mutual friend, Jason Chu. I've only been involved with photography for about a year, but I might be able to help.

Before you make any decisions about which camera to buy, I would highly recommend going to the store and physically handling both models to see which one feels more comfortable and natural. As far as specifications and prices go, the D60 and the Rebel XS (aka 1000D) are very similar, though the D60 offers a better dust reduction system, built-in image editing, and faster, quieter auto-focus, while the Rebel XS offers more focus points and live view, i.e. displaying the live image on the LCD.

Other aspects to kind in mind include whether you have access to cheap Canon or Nikon lenses, and what the manufacturer's warranty is like for each camera. At the end of the day though, both the Rebel XS and the D60 are great cameras, and you'll probably be happy with your choice. =]

Hope this helps!

Krista,

I got the Canon Rebel XSI for Christmas, and I would never go back. I talked to several photographers before I got it, and they all recommended a Rebel. Nikons are really similar, but they are heavier, so to carry them around for long periods of time, I'd go for the Rebel for sure.

Good luck!

I"m not going to lie, we have a cannon and love it. Ours is pretty old but it has lasted forever and we aren't planning an upgrade anytime soon cause its so durable. Now if you are really into photography and take lot of pictures I heard that Nikon is the way to go. They are amazing, I don't know half the buttons but I would love to have a Nikon. Good luck and it is good to catch up on blogs!!!!! Love them!

I favor Canons. I think they are easier to use. I will link a website that is a guide to beginners getting their first SLR cameras.
